Wesley's Success Story

Wesley's journey with St. Joseph the Worker began in February, but his story of resilience started long before that. As a child, he survived a traumatic near-death experience. His adolescent years were burdened by undiagnosed mental health challenges, leading to frustration, substance abuse, and ultimately homelessness. 

Despite these hurdles, Wesley fought to create a better life. He graduated high school, earned a college degree, and secured a job. However, when he found himself living in his car for four months, even the basic necessities of life felt out of reach. Finding a safe place to sleep, evading harassment from security, and using the gym for showers before heading to work became his daily battles.

He was doing everything right- staying sober and working hard- yet stability continued to elude him. All Wesley needed was a chance. 

That's when Wesley found The Worker. Through our Workforce Villages program, he entered 90 days of transitional housing, where he saved 80% of his income, learned how to budget and meal plan, and regained the confidence he had lost. In just 90 days, Wesley moved into his own apartment and achieved his lifelong dream- publishing his first children's book, Bobby the Old Orange Ball, a heartwarming story about finding happiness in simplicity. Wesley's life has transformed, proving that anything is possible with the right support.
